ACC Roundup: Louisville Rebounds, NC State Struggles
In Wednesday’s ACC action, Louisville dominated Boston College 84-58, while SMU edged past Virginia Tech 81-75. NC State struggled offensively in a 74-62 loss to Cal, and Wake Forest secured a 79-73 win over Stanford.
Louisville pulled away from Boston College in the second half, despite a poor shooting night from Reyne Smith. The Cardinals welcomed back Noah Waterman but saw Chucky Hepburn exit with an injury of uncertain severity. Meanwhile, BC’s Donald Hand led his team with 19 points, but the Eagles shot just 38.3% overall.
Virginia Tech showed improvement but couldn’t keep pace with SMU late in the game. Chuck Harris sparked SMU’s run, scoring 12 points in the final 12 minutes. Former Duke player Jayden Schutt has been heating up, contributing solid performances in recent games.
NC State’s offensive woes continued as only Marcus Hill (20 points) delivered against Cal. The Wolfpack shot just 38.7% overall and 23.1% from three. Cal’s Andrej Stojakovic returned but had a minimal impact, while Jeremiah Wilkinson and Jovan Blacksher led the way.
Stanford, playing without Duke transfer Jaylen Blakes, nearly upset Wake Forest. Despite 17 turnovers, the Cardinal kept it close, but Wake’s Cameron Hildreth stepped up with 22 points to secure the win.
