Kentucky Transfer Caleb Redd Commits to Kansas Football
Kansas football continues to capitalize on the transfer portal, securing a commitment on Friday from Kentucky transfer Caleb Redd. The defensive end, who spent his freshman season in 2024 with the Wildcats, now heads to Lawrence with four years of eligibility remaining.
Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 230 pounds, Redd appeared in two games during his time at Kentucky. He made his debut against Ohio, playing four snaps, and later saw action against Murray State, logging eight snaps and recording one tackle. According to Pro Football Focus, he did not participate on special teams.
Kansas had a prior connection with Redd, having been the first Power 4 program to extend him an offer during his high school recruitment. The St. Louis native already had a relationship with KU defensive ends coach Taiwo Onatolu and recruiter Terrence Samuel, who oversees the St. Louis area for the Jayhawks. Although Redd initially chose Kentucky over other offers from programs like Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, USC, and Wisconsin, the familiarity with KU staff played a significant role in his transfer decision.
A three-star prospect out of high school, Redd was ranked as the No. 63 edge rusher in the 2024 class and the No. 18 player in Missouri, per 247Sports. The industry-generated 247Sports Composite placed him as the No. 849 overall prospect nationally, the No. 57 edge rusher, and the No. 12 player in Missouri.
With Redd’s addition, the Jayhawks are projected to have seven scholarship defensive ends for the 2024 season, including Dean Miller, Dylan Brooks, Bai Jobe, Dak Brinkley, Adrian Holley, and Garrett Martin. His commitment bolsters the defensive line depth and showcases Kansas’ continued success in leveraging the transfer portal to strengthen its roster.
