Breaking News: Virginia Tech legend to become the new head coach

Virginia Tech Legend Michael Vick Set to Become Head Coach

Michael Vick is taking on a new challenge, not as an assistant coach in college football, a quarterback coach in the NFL, or even a high school coach. Instead, the Virginia Tech icon is reportedly set to become the new head football coach for the Norfolk State Spartans.

According to The Virginian-Pilot’s David Teel, Vick has agreed to take on the role, marking his first foray into head coaching. The news comes amid a whirlwind of speculation about Vick’s coaching future. Earlier this week, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Sacramento State expressed interest in Vick for its head coaching vacancy, offering to surround him with an experienced staff and boasting plans for a new stadium and a $50 million NIL fund to bolster the program.

Despite the enticing offer, Vick has reportedly chosen to return to his roots in the 757 area, opting to lead Norfolk State instead. However, the university has yet to officially confirm the hiring, even though Vick himself has stated the deal is done.

Vick, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in Virginia Tech history alongside Bruce Smith, hails from Newport News, Virginia. He starred at Warwick High School before making his mark in Blacksburg, where he led the Hokies to the national championship game and was selected first overall in the 2001 NFL Draft.

Former Virginia Tech Legend Michael Vick Hired as Norfolk State Head Coach

In recent years, Vick has worked as a media analyst for FOX Sports and has maintained close ties to the Virginia Tech program, particularly since Brent Pry became head coach in 2022.

The timing of Vick’s reported hiring is noteworthy, as Pry faces pressure following a mediocre 6-6 season. Should Vick find immediate success at Norfolk State while the Hokies continue to struggle, it could spark intriguing discussions about his coaching future.

Stay tuned for further updates as Norfolk State is expected to make an official announcement soon.
