The Buffalo Bills are being urged to strengthen their defense after a tough 44-42 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, which diminished their chances of surpassing the Kansas City Chiefs for the AFC’s top seed. Despite clinching the AFC East, the Bills need to solidify their playoff position.
Analyst Alex Ballentine from Bleacher Report suggested the team consider signing 31-year-old free-agent cornerback Xavien Howard, formerly of the Miami Dolphins. Ballentine argued that the addition of Howard could be a cost-effective way to enhance the Bills’ defense as they aim for a Super Bowl run. Howard performed well in his last season, allowing a passer rating of 81.3 in 2023.
Although the Bills’ defense has generally been strong, recent struggles against high-powered offenses, including giving up 44 points to the Rams and 35 to the Ravens, highlight areas for improvement.

The Bills recently bolstered their secondary by re-signing veteran safety Micah Hyde to the practice squad. Head coach Sean McDermott clarified that Hyde’s role is to provide depth and mentorship rather than replace any current starters. Hyde expressed enthusiasm for mentoring younger players and supporting the team in any way possible.
With these potential moves, the Bills are positioning themselves to maximize their postseason chances and pursue a championship.
