GOOD NEWS: As yankee makes statement with Trio of High-profile Signing

Three Moves the Yankees Should Consider After Missing Out on Juan Soto

The New York Yankees fell short in the race for Juan Soto, as the star outfielder inked a historic 15-year, $765 million deal with the New York Mets. While losing Soto is a setback, the Yankees still have options to construct a championship-level roster.

1. Trade for Luis Robert Jr.

Instead of targeting free agents like Alex Bregman, Christian Walker, or Anthony Santander—each of whom raises concerns about fit, contract value, or long-term performance—the Yankees could pursue a young star with significant upside. Luis Robert Jr. of the Chicago White Sox fits that profile.

Though injuries hindered his 2024 season (14 home runs, 84 wRC+ in 100 games), Robert demonstrated his potential in 2023 with 38 homers, 20 stolen bases, and a 128 wRC+. His elite defense in center field would also allow Aaron Judge to shift back to right field. With the White Sox reportedly open to trading Robert, the Yankees should explore this option.

2. Sign Corbin Burnes

With Soto off the table, the Yankees could shift focus to Corbin Burnes, arguably the best free-agent pitcher available. While starting pitching isn’t a pressing need, adding a former Cy Young winner who posted a 2.92 ERA in Baltimore last season would strengthen their rotation.

The Yankees have recently met with Burnes, and mutual interest seems to exist. Signing Burnes could also open up trade opportunities for pitchers like Nestor Cortes, Marcus Stroman, or Clarke Schmidt, addressing other roster gaps.

3. Bolster the Bullpen with Tanner Scott

Building a dominant bullpen could significantly enhance the Yankees’ postseason chances. Tanner Scott, a hard-throwing lefty who recorded a stellar 1.75 ERA with 84 strikeouts last season between the Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres, would be an excellent addition for late-game situations.

Trustworthy relievers were in short supply for the Yankees during the World Series, as they relied heavily on a limited group of bullpen arms. Adding a player like Scott would provide the depth and reliability needed for October success.

While missing Soto is disappointing, these moves could help the Yankees remain competitive and chase a championship in 2025.
