Broncos Waive WR Josh Reynolds
The Denver Broncos have reportedly waived wide receiver Josh Reynolds, according to Tom Pelissero. Reynolds, who was nearing activation from short-term injured reserve, was not activated for the game against the Cleveland Browns. The team faced a Wednesday deadline to bring him back or place him on season-ending injured reserve but opted instead to move on from the 2024 free-agent signing.
Reynolds appeared in five games this season, recording 12 receptions for 183 yards and a touchdown. His availability was disrupted in October when he underwent finger surgery expected to sideline him for only one game. However, an incident in which Reynolds was shot at a strip club extended his time on injured reserve.
One factor in the Broncos’ decision may have been the emergence of their younger wide receiver corps behind Courtland Sutton. As noted by Zac Stevens of DNVR, Devaughn Vele stepped into Reynolds’ role and performed well during his absence. Quarterback Bo Nix has developed strong chemistry with the current receivers over the past two months, giving head coach Sean Payton confidence in the group.
Reynolds signed with the Broncos in March on a two-year, $9 million deal, with $4.25 million guaranteed. His release will not significantly impact the team’s long-term salary cap situation.
