Falcons Rookie Defensive Lineman Nearing Return from Injury
The Atlanta Falcons are preparing to welcome back rookie defensive tackle Ruke Orhorhoro, who is set to return to practice this week after being sidelined with an ankle injury suffered in Week 8 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Head coach Raheem Morris confirmed the news, stating that Orhorhoro is expected to be activated following the team’s Week 12 bye, which provided additional recovery time.
Orhorhoro, a second-round draft pick, played in four games this season after being inactive for the first four weeks. During that time, he logged five tackles and one quarterback hit across 63 defensive snaps. The 6’4″, 295-pound lineman’s return is anticipated to bolster Atlanta’s defensive line.
By NFL rules, the Falcons have a 21-day window to evaluate Orhorhoro in practice once he is designated to return from injured reserve. However, it appears likely that he will be back on the field sooner rather than later.
In other injury updates, safety DeMarcco Hellams, who has been on injured reserve since a preseason ankle injury, is not expected to resume practicing this week. Despite this, Morris noted that Hellams is progressing and could make a return later this season.
The Falcons (6-6) are gearing up for their Week 14 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, which will take place Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium.
