Bills HC Provides Update on QB Josh Allen Following Injury Scare
The Buffalo Bills are entering their bye week with confidence after a significant 30-21 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, and they may have received additional good news regarding quarterback Josh Allen, who experienced an injury scare during the game.
Allen had his throwing hand evaluated by the team’s medical staff after a fourth-quarter touchdown pass to Curtis Samuel, which drew attention from the CBS broadcast team. Despite some concern, Allen returned to the game and later secured a game-clinching 26-yard touchdown run. Although there were initial worries about the injury, head coach Sean McDermott assured the public that there were no serious issues. McDermott explained that head trainer Nate Breske had assessed Allen after the game and found no cause for concern.
McDermott quipped with reporters, “I think we’re going to get him a new [hand] over the bye week here,” but emphasized that, as of now, there were no reported issues from the medical staff. “So hopefully it remains that way,” McDermott added. With the win, the Bills improved to a 9-2 record, and Allen now has two weeks to rest.
Though there were no new injury concerns after the Chiefs game, Allen had previously dealt with a left (non-throwing) hand injury earlier in the season, which led him to wear a protective glove.
Allen, who has battled through various injuries in past seasons, also dealt with a shoulder issue in 2023 that affected his throwing motion. Over the offseason, he worked with a sports science company to address these issues.
Additionally, the Bills may be getting linebacker Matt Milano back after a lengthy absence. Milano, who missed most of the 2023 season due to a fractured leg and was sidelined again during training camp with a torn pectoral muscle, has been activated from injured reserve and returned to practice. His return could be a significant boost to the Buffalo defense for their next game against the San Francisco 49ers.
