Blockbuster Trade the Dodgers Should Pursue Post-2024 World Series Victory
Fresh off their second World Series win in five years, the Los Angeles Dodgers are poised for another aggressive offseason. Despite spending over $1 billion last year, the team is determined to stay competitive, with their sights set on becoming the first back-to-back World Series champions since the Yankees’ 1998-2000 dynasty.
The Dodgers have already made minor league moves and are reportedly meeting with free agent superstar Juan Soto. Additionally, GM Brandon Gomes announced that Mookie Betts will return to the infield in 2025, creating a ripple effect across the roster.
Why the Dodgers Need a Trade
Betts’ shift to second base leaves Gavin Lux, Miguel Rojas, and Tommy Edman as potential shortstops, but with Lux’s defensive struggles and the team’s links to free agent Willy Adames, Lux could find himself the odd man out. While Lux showed promise at the plate in 2024 and remains a valuable asset, the Dodgers have pressing needs in the outfield and pitching staff, making him a prime trade candidate.
The Ideal Trade
The Dodgers could package Lux with pitching prospects Peter Heubeck and Payton Martin to acquire two-time All-Star reliever Devin Williams from the Milwaukee Brewers. Williams, under team control for one more year, is a prime trade candidate for the rebuilding Brewers.
Trade Proposal:
- Dodgers receive: RHP Devin Williams
- Brewers receive: INF Gavin Lux, RHP Peter Heubeck, RHP Payton Martin
Why the Dodgers Benefit
Devin Williams, nicknamed “Airbender” for his devastating changeup, is among the best relievers in baseball, boasting a career 1.83 ERA and two NL Reliever of the Year awards. Adding Williams to a bullpen that already features Michael Kopech, Evan Phillips, and Alex Vesia would create a dominant relief corps. With Williams as closer or setup man, the Dodgers’ bullpen would become a formidable force, elevating their pitching depth for another championship push.
Why the Brewers Benefit
The Brewers would gain Gavin Lux, a 26-year-old Kenosha native and former first-round pick, to anchor their infield. Lux hit .251 with 10 home runs and 50 RBIs in 2024, proving his value post-ACL injury. As Adames likely departs, Lux could slot in at second base while Brice Turang shifts to shortstop. Additionally, Heubeck and Martin, two top-30 Dodgers pitching prospects, would bolster Milwaukee’s future rotation.
This trade strengthens both teams: the Dodgers solidify their bullpen, while the Brewers address infield depth and pitching prospects, aligning with their rebuilding strategy.
