Scott Boras, one of Major League Baseball’s most influential agents, is offering some advice to the Detroit Tigers as they look to strengthen their competitiveness in the coming years. Boras, who represents several key players on the Tigers’ roster—including Tarik Skubal, Jackson Jobe, Spencer Torkelson, Jace Jung, and Kenta Maeda—has a vested interest in the team’s future success. At the recent general manager meetings held at the JW Marriott, Boras discussed the Tigers’ current position, stating, “I think the Tigers have reached a level where it’s certainly time for them to put their toe in the water about a high level of competitiveness.” His comments emphasize that it’s time for the Tigers to begin investing more heavily in their roster to compete at a higher level.
With the Tigers’ projected payroll for 2025 at just $77.6 million—ranked 29th in the league for 2024—and their 2024 payroll at $98.5 million (26th overall), the numbers suggest a need for increased spending if the team hopes to compete more effectively in the future. Boras’ advice highlights a pivotal moment for the organization. Increasing their financial commitment could enable the Tigers to acquire top-tier talent and build a championship-contending roster. With a solid foundation in place, Boras believes now is the time for the Tigers to invest in their future and pursue success on the field.
