The Atlanta Braves are reportedly exploring options to bolster their lineup, with a focus on upgrading from Orlando Arcia at shortstop. Arcia struggled offensively in 2024, hitting just .218 with a .625 OPS. As the Braves aim to stay competitive with teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League, finding a more productive bat is a priority.
One potential target for the Braves is free-agent infielder Jorge Polanco. Despite enduring one of the worst seasons of his career in 2024, where he batted .213 with the Seattle Mariners, Polanco has a proven track record. Over his career, he’s hit .262 with a 109 OPS+ (where 100 is league average), demonstrating his capability as a solid hitter. Joining the Braves could offer Polanco the opportunity for a fresh start and a chance to rediscover his form, especially with the support of a strong offensive lineup.
Polanco is projected to sign a four-year deal worth approximately $54.7 million, though his recent struggles might lower his market value. If Braves hitting coach Tim Hyers can help him return to his peak performance, Polanco could provide much-needed stability at shortstop and contribute to a more balanced lineup. Adding him could strengthen the Braves’ position as contenders in the NL East.
