Commitment Update: Illini Women’s Basketball Adds Four-Star Canadian Forward Cearah Parchment
The Illinois women’s basketball team gained its second commitment this week with a verbal pledge from four-star forward Cearah Parchment from Fort Erie, Ontario. Ranked as the No. 46 prospect in the Class of 2025 by 247Sports and No. 39 by ESPN, the 6-foot-2 forward chose Illinois over Michigan, Minnesota, and Maryland.
Parchment joins Australian wing Erica Finney as the second commitment of the week for Illinois. During her time with Team Canada at the FIBA U17 tournament this summer, she averaged 3.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.0 steals. She also delivered a strong showing in the 2023 FIBA U16 Women’s Americas Championship, averaging 10.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.5 steals, 2.2 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game.
Why It Matters
Parchment becomes the third member of the Illini’s Class of 2025, joining Finney and five-star guard Destiny Jackson. This class marks head coach Shauna Green’s first with two top-40 recruits, enhancing depth at forward. At 6-foot-2, Parchment offers flexibility to play both the three and four positions, complementing Shay Bollin and Berry Wallace in a forward role. Her commitment represents a significant recruiting win, particularly over three Big Ten programs.
The Illini are actively recruiting for future rosters to prepare for the departures of players like Makira Cook, Genesis Bryant, and Kendall Bostic. Parchment’s versatility and Finney’s shooting ability align well with Illinois’ needs. Illinois is also targeting prospects like Ohio guard Naomi Benson, Minnesota guard Addie Mack, and 6-foot-3 IMG Academy center Manuella Alves to further strengthen the team’s future roster.
Scouting Report: Parchment is described as a consistent forward who can make corner threes and is adept at screen rolls, rim drives, and jump shots. Her rebounding skill and old-school three-level scoring style add valuable depth to Illinois’ offensive strategies.
