A former All-Pro might be used by the Buffalo Bills to improve a critical defensive need.
The Buffalo Bills made significant roster changes this offseason, including trading Stefon Diggs and parting ways with their All-Pro safety duo. Despite these departures, their strong standing in the NFL remains intact. Heading into Week 8 against the Seattle Seahawks, the Bills lead the AFC East with a 5-2 record, well ahead of the 2-5 New York Jets, who recently bolstered their roster by acquiring Davante Adams.
With the Jets making moves, the Bills may also be considering upgrades. GM Brandon Beane recently indicated that although they traded for Amari Cooper, Buffalo is still open to adding more talent, potentially reuniting with a former star. One option is former All-Pro safety Micah Hyde, who remains a free agent. Despite being 33, other veteran safeties, like Harrison Smith of the Vikings, continue to play effectively at an older age.
According to Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic, the Bills have “left the door open” for Hyde’s possible return to Orchard Park, especially given the team’s current needs at safety and backup offensive line. While Hyde hasn’t attracted public interest from other teams and may be considering retirement, there’s speculation he could return for a playoff-bound team, similar to how Eric Weddle joined the Rams in 2021 for their Super Bowl run. Hyde could follow a similar path for the Bills.
