DeAndre Hopkins has been traded to the Kansas City Chiefs, meaning the Buffalo Bills will face him again in 2024. Matt Warren, Associate Director of NFL coverage for SB Nation and a longtime Buffalo Bills reporter, shared the news. The last time Hopkins played against the Bills, he managed just one reception for six yards, which turned into a 2-yard net loss due to a fumble. He was later sidelined by the Titans during that game.

On Wednesday morning, the Tennessee Titans agreed to trade Hopkins to the Chiefs. This means that when the Bills meet Kansas City in less than a month, Hopkins will likely be familiar with Andy Reid’s offense and ready to contribute.

The Chiefs acquired Hopkins for a conditional fifth-round pick, and they’ll pay him around $5 million. In comparison, the Bills recently traded for Amari Cooper, who will cost Buffalo under $1 million, though they gave up a third-round pick to the Cleveland Browns.

This season, Hopkins has struggled, posting just 15 receptions for 173 yards and one touchdown, while dealing with inconsistent quarterback play from Will Levis and backup Mason Rudolph. He did, however, top 1,000 yards with seven touchdowns last year, though a lingering knee issue has slowed him in 2024.

The Chiefs made the trade due to multiple injuries at key positions. Wide receivers Hollywood Brown and Rashee Rice are on Injured Reserve (IR), and JuJu Smith-Schuster is also out with an injury. Additionally, Kansas City’s top running back, Isaiah Pacheco, is on IR. As a result, the Chiefs have relied heavily on tight end Travis Kelce and their other tight ends, sometimes using three at once. Their remaining wide receivers include Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson, Skyy Moore, and Mecole Hardman.
