A former wide receiver for the Chiefs and Bills joins the NFC Squad.

Former Chiefs and Bills wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling has signed with the New Orleans Saints just days after being released by the Buffalo Bills. The Bills parted ways with Valdes-Scantling on October 21 to make room for newly acquired Amari Cooper. Valdes-Scantling, a two-time Super Bowl champion, struggled to secure a consistent role with the Bills, playing in six games this season but only recording two catches for 26 yards.

Valdes-Scantling had joined the Bills last offseason during a wide receiver overhaul that saw the departure of top receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans and No. 2 Gabe Davis in free agency. Despite the Bills’ strategy of spreading targets across their receivers, Valdes-Scantling couldn’t carve out a regular role.

Now, with the Saints facing multiple injuries in their wide receiver group, including the loss of rising star Rashid Shaheed to a knee injury, Valdes-Scantling has a chance to step up. According to John Sigler of USA Today’s Saints Wire, Valdes-Scantling’s size and speed make him a valuable deep threat, potentially filling the void left by Shaheed. At 6-foot-4 and 26 pounds heavier than Shaheed, Valdes-Scantling offers a bigger target with a similar speed profile, clocking a 4.37-second 40-yard dash in college.
