The Kansas City Chiefs improved to 6-0 after their 28-18 victory against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. However, the win came at a cost as starting cornerback Jaylen Watson left early in the game with an ankle injury and was quickly ruled out for the rest of the match. Unfortunately, it appears that Watson’s injury is more severe than initially thought. NFL insider Ian Rapoport reports that he has suffered a fractured ankle and will undergo imaging to assess the possibility of a return in 2024.
Losing Watson for an extended period would be a significant blow to the Chiefs’ secondary, especially given their concerns about cornerback depth following L’Jarius Sneed’s departure. Watson and top corner Trent McDuffie had quickly formed one of the NFL’s top cornerback duos. Now, Kansas City will need to rely on their depth chart to find a suitable replacement for Watson in the upcoming weeks. With several injuries already impacting their offense, this loss on defense adds to their challenges.
