The Atlanta Falcons defense is facing significant challenges ahead of their Week 7 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, as injuries continue to mount. The defense has struggled all season, especially in the first half of games, with their underperforming front seven being a key issue. For the Falcons to stay competitive, they must improve in this area.
However, injuries won’t make that any easier. Linebackers Troy Andersen and Lorenzo Carter have been ruled out for Week 7. Andersen, who was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 4, will miss his third consecutive game after leaving what was the best performance of his career. Carter, a key starter on the defensive line, is also sidelined with a concussion.
Additionally, starting safety Justin Simmons is listed as questionable due to a hamstring injury.
The Falcons are in a tough spot against a pass-heavy Seahawks offense led by Geno Smith, the NFL’s leading passer. Seattle’s aerial attack, featuring receivers DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, presents a difficult challenge for Atlanta’s defense, which has struggled to stop both the run and the pass this season.
The absence of Andersen and Carter is a major blow for the defense. Andersen has been the team’s most dynamic linebacker, capable of making game-changing plays, while Carter’s loss further weakens a pass rush that has long struggled to pressure opposing quarterbacks.
Kaden Elliss and Nate Landman will continue to lead the defense, and rookie Brandon Dorlus could make his debut to provide a spark off the edge. If Simmons is unable to play, Richie Grant will likely step in at safety, which is notable as he secured a game-sealing interception the last time the Falcons faced the Seahawks.
