JUST IN: Mike Macdonald sends mind-blowing message to Dan Campbell ahead of gameday.

Dan Campbell sends a message to opponents about Jahmyr Gibbs and Sam LaPorta. The Detroit Lions’ offense hit its stride in Monday night’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, averaging 7.8 yards per play and going 5-for-5 in the red zone, scoring 42 points.

David Montgomery stole the spotlight with an “Angry Run” highlight, but Jahmyr Gibbs contributed 78 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Sam LaPorta, also in his second year, had four catches for 53 yards, showing improvement after a slow start to the season. Campbell discussed both players in his Tuesday press conference.

“They’re coming on,” Campbell said. “Gibbs and LaPorta both looked fresh on Monday. They’re as healthy as they’ve been since training camp and trending upwards.”

On Gibbs specifically, Campbell added, “He’s getting better every week. There were three runs yesterday that were inches away from breaking for a touchdown. He’s right on the verge of taking off.”

Gibbs and LaPorta had breakout rookie seasons last year, with Gibbs amassing over 1,200 yards and 11 touchdowns, while LaPorta set multiple team and NFL records for a rookie tight end. Both players dealt with injuries during training camp, but Monday night’s performance suggests they’re back to form. If this is their healthiest in months, Campbell’s comments serve as a warning to the defenses they’ll face after the Lions’ Week 5 bye.
