Nebraska linebacker Javin Wright made his season debut against Purdue after missing the first four games due to a health issue. Wright, a senior, had been eager to return and contributed with three tackles in the game. “It feels great to be back,” he said, acknowledging he still needs time to regain his full conditioning but is happy to begin the process.
Wright had known for about three weeks that he might return for the Purdue game, though his preparation differed from his teammates. He primarily participated in walk-throughs to stay up-to-date with game plans while managing a unique, less physical training schedule. “I can’t do anything physical in practice right now, but I’m very deliberate in how I work out and practice,” he explained.
During his time off the field, Wright remained engaged with the team, attending meetings, film sessions, and walk-throughs to ensure a smooth transition back into the lineup. His commitment helped earn the trust of his coaches. “Their trust in me was due to my process,” Wright said.
In his return, Wright contributed to a strong defensive performance, helping Nebraska limit Purdue to just 137 yards through the first three quarters. His presence also bolstered the depth of the defense, especially with the absence of inside linebacker Stefon Thompson. Wright emphasized the team’s energy and resilience during the game, saying, “When adversity hit, we matched it with energy, and that energy is contagious, allowing us to play at a high level.”
