An insider has disclosed the salary Igor Shesterkin is aiming for in his next contract with the New York Rangers. The team and their star goaltender seem to be at a standstill in negotiations, likely due to Shesterkin’s asking price. The 28-year-old goalie played 55 games last season, posting a 36-17-2 record with 4 shutouts, a 2.58 goals-against average, and a .912 save percentage.
Although these stats appear solid, they reflect one of Shesterkin’s worst seasons statistically, with a career-low save percentage and the second-highest goals-against average of his career. Given this dip in performance, there’s hesitation about offering him a record-breaking contract. According to ESPN’s Casey Ditzel, Shesterkin is seeking a $12 million per season deal, which would make him the highest-paid goalie in NHL history.
