Breaking: Braves Predicted To Swing Blockbuster Trade For Controversial $22 Million Pitcher

Braves Could Target Controversial $22 Million Pitcher in Blockbuster Trade

After losing Max Fried earlier this offseason and likely missing out on Charlie Morton as well, the Atlanta Braves face a pressing need to address their starting pitching depth heading into 2025. Following a challenging 2024 season in this department, the Braves may need to make bold moves to solidify their rotation.

FanSided’s Cody Williams recently proposed an intriguing solution: a potential trade for Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Jordan Montgomery. Despite a rough 2024 campaign, Montgomery could offer the Braves significant upside at a low cost.

“With Corbin Burnes now in Arizona, there simply isn’t a spot in the D’Backs rotation for Montgomery after his unfortunate signing following a missed spring training,” Williams noted. “His season in the desert was a disaster, posting a 6.23 ERA and 1.65 WHIP across 25 games. The Diamondbacks have made it clear they want to move on, but since Montgomery opted into his contract, they’ll need to trade him.”

Montgomery’s 2024 performance was a sharp deviation from his previous three seasons, where he demonstrated much more reliability. While the Diamondbacks are eager to part ways, they may be willing to cover a significant portion of his $22 million contract to facilitate a trade. Additionally, acquiring Montgomery likely wouldn’t require the Braves to part with any of their top 30 prospects.

For Atlanta, taking a chance on Montgomery could be a calculated risk with a potentially high reward. If he can regain his prior form, he could become a valuable asset in their rotation without significantly straining the team’s resources. With the Diamondbacks motivated to move on, this trade scenario could present an opportunity for the Braves to strengthen their pitching staff at a bargain.
