BREAKING NEWS: Top experienced player to undergo season-ending surgery.

Torey Krug will miss the entire 2024-25 season after opting to undergo surgery on his left ankle. “I fractured it during the playoffs six years ago while with Boston, and over the past few years, it’s gradually worsened,” Krug explained during a press conference at Centene Community Ice Center on Wednesday. “Last season, managing the pain was difficult, and this summer, I couldn’t do what was needed to prepare for the NHL. I tried pushing through, but ultimately, I wasn’t able to, so surgery became necessary.”

The procedure will address pre-arthritic issues in his ankle after non-surgical treatments proved ineffective. Krug shared, “When being on the ice started to really aggravate it, I knew something had to be done. I don’t even remember what a pain-free ankle feels like.”

Since joining the Blues in 2020, the 33-year-old defenseman has played four seasons in St. Louis, accumulating 146 points (22 goals, 124 assists) in 255 regular-season games. Across his NHL career, he has appeared in 778 games.

Krug reflected on the uncertainty of his future, saying, “Missing a whole season makes you think about your career. There aren’t many, if any, players who have come back from this surgery, but I have to take it one day, week, and month at a time. I can’t predict much, just stay present.”
