USC has extended a scholarship offer to one of the country’s most intriguing prospects, 2025 edge rusher Tobi Haastrup, despite his limited experience in football. Haastrup, a four-star recruit from Mayde Creek High School in Texas, announced the offer after only three high school games. The former track star, who only began playing football in his senior year, has quickly garnered attention, picking up 20 offers from top programs like Florida State, LSU, Tennessee, and Texas A&M.
Although new to the sport, Haastrup is already ranked No. 276 nationally and the No. 21 edge rusher in the 2025 class, according to 247Sports. Standing 6’4″ and weighing 235 pounds, he combines speed—clocking a 10.71-second 100-meter dash—and power, having thrown the shot put over 52 feet. Originally from London, England, Haastrup grew up playing soccer and running track but transitioned to football after being encouraged by his coaches.

In his first three games at Mayde Creek, Haastrup has made an immediate impact with nine sacks and eight tackles for loss, showcasing his raw athleticism and potential as an edge defender. While he’ll need time to fully adapt to football, his unique combination of size, speed, and athletic ability makes him one of the most promising prospects in the nation.
USC, led by head coach Lincoln Riley, has a strong 2025 recruiting class but could further bolster their defensive lineup if defensive line coach Eric Henderson can build a strong connection with Haastrup.
