BREAKING NEWS: Five-star top experience player commits to Miami

Five-star shooting guard Matthew Able has committed to Miami, becoming the Hurricanes’ first pledge for their 2025 recruiting class. The Sagemont Prep (Fla.) standout announced his decision on Friday via the 247Sports YouTube channel, choosing Miami over other finalists, including Wake Forest, Northwestern, Baylor, Boston College, Xavier, Michigan, and Virginia Tech.

Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 190 pounds, Able emerged as one of the summer’s most rapidly rising prospects after a standout performance in the grassroots circuit with Austin Rivers SE Elite on the 3SSB Circuit. He climbed in the 2025 player rankings from No. 227 to No. 64 nationally and is now considered the 14th-best shooting guard in his class.

Known for his athleticism and slashing ability, Able is a capable shot-maker who doesn’t need the ball in his hands to make an impact. His commitment extends Miami’s streak of landing top-100 recruits for a second consecutive year. The Hurricanes became serious contenders for Able’s signature over the summer, culminating in an official visit last week. Before visiting Miami, Able also toured Wake Forest and Northwestern. Bill Courtney, Miami’s associate head coach, led the recruitment efforts.

Miami’s coaching staff emphasized their success in developing guards and sending them to the NBA, which resonated with Able. He noted their impressive track record, stating, “They’ve had, I believe, three guards make it to the league in the last two years. That was a big selling point for me.”

Able’s commitment brings momentum to the Hurricanes as they prepare for a crucial stretch, hosting several four-star recruits for official visits and welcoming Cameron and Cayden Boozer on unofficial visits in the coming weeks.

Adam Finkelstein, 247Sports Director of Scouting, praised Able’s versatile skill set, describing him as a strong wing with a unique shooting form, effective mid-range game, and athleticism in transition. He also highlighted Able’s proficiency with both hands and his solid defensive effort.
