Veteran defensive tackle Angelo Blackson, formerly of Auburn, has joined the Arizona Cardinals after being released by the Denver Broncos on Aug. 26 during their roster cuts. Blackson, who played 11 games with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2023, was signed to the Cardinals’ practice squad on Tuesday. Players on the practice squad can be elevated to active status the day before games, allowing them to play. This marks Blackson’s second stint with Arizona, having played 16 games, starting nine, and recording 2.5 sacks for the team in 2020.
The Cardinals, who lost their 2024 season opener to the Buffalo Bills 34-28, will face the Los Angeles Rams at home this Sunday. Blackson, a fourth-round draft pick by the Tennessee Titans in 2015, has played for five NFL teams throughout his career. After two seasons with the Titans, Blackson was signed by the Houston Texans in 2017, where he played every game in 2018 and started 15 regular-season and two playoff games in 2019. He was released before the 2020 season but quickly signed with the Cardinals, appearing in every game that year.
Blackson later signed a two-year, $5.5 million contract with the Chicago Bears in 2021, playing 32 games over two seasons. In 2023, he joined the Baltimore Ravens but was released before signing with Jacksonville. Blackson then signed a one-year deal with the Broncos in April 2024. Over his career, Blackson has played in 128 regular-season games, with 42 starts, recording 179 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 17 tackles for loss, 27 quarterback hits, and multiple pass breakups. He has also appeared in three postseason games.
