Buffalo Sabres Prospect Goaltender Ryerson Leenders Traded in Major Deal for Draft Picks
In a significant trade, the Ontario Hockey League’s Brampton Steelheads have sent top goaltender prospect Ryerson Leenders to the Brantford Bulldogs in exchange for a total of eight future OHL draft picks. This haul includes three second-round picks, three third-round picks, and additional fourth and fifth-round picks in 2035 and 2037, respectively.
In a related move, the Steelheads have acquired goaltender Jacob Gibbons from the Erie Otters for a fourth-round pick in 2025 and a sixth-round pick in 2028. Gibbons is eligible for the 2025 NHL Draft. Leenders, 18, was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the seventh round of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. During his time with the Steelheads, who were based in Mississauga last season, Leenders posted a record of 24-17-4.

The trade positions 2025 NHL Draft prospect Jack Ivankovic to take on a leading role in goal for the Steelheads, after he shared time with Leenders last season. Ivankovic, a first-round draft pick for the team in 2023, recently contributed to Canada’s gold medal win at the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
The Brampton Steelheads, now beginning their first season after relocating from Mississauga, have bolstered their roster with key additions, including Seattle Kraken prospect Carson Rehkopf, who scored 52 goals and 95 points in 60 OHL games last season with Kitchener, and defenseman Spencer Sova, captain of the Erie Otters.
