BREAKING NEWS: Jared Bednar confirms return of talented star players from devastating injury.

Avalanche’s Logan O’Connor and Sean Behrens are eager to return

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Colorado Avalanche are looking forward to two significant returns this fall: the comeback of forward Logan O’Connor and the debut season of defenseman Sean Behrens. O’Connor, sidelined for the last 25 games due to a hip injury, is set to return to full health after undergoing surgery in the spring. Meanwhile, Behrens is gearing up for his first full season of professional hockey, following a successful college career that saw him win two titles in three years at the University of Denver. Both players have made it clear they’re excited to get back to the game this fall.

O’Connor and his recovery
Last season was O’Connor’s shortest since his rookie year with the Avalanche. Opting for surgery and a full summer to recover, O’Connor shared, “I was skating by mid-June, so it gave me plenty of time to ramp up and feel good as camp approaches.” Many players don’t start skating until July, so O’Connor is ahead of the curve.

Roaring 20s” line
O’Connor is hopeful for a reunion with his “Roaring 20s” linemates, Miles Wood and Ross Colton, with whom he found great chemistry last year. “I’d definitely like that if it happens,” O’Connor said. “We’re all comfortable playing with anyone, though, especially with so much change at the start of the season. But I know Bedsy (Coach Bednar) has that line in mind if needed, whether it’s at the start of the season or later on. I really enjoy playing with them.”

Cal Ritchie
O’Connor also skated at the DU Pro Camp last week alongside teammates like Behrens, Devon Toews, Samuel Girard, and NHL hopeful Cal Ritchie. “He’s incredibly talented,” O’Connor remarked about Ritchie. “He’s mature and professional for his age, understanding what it takes off the ice in terms of training, recovery, and nutrition. His skills, decision-making, and shot are impressive. It’s been great to watch him, and I’ve tried to help him along the way.”

Behrens’ ambitions
Sean Behrens had a whirlwind finish to last season, winning his second national championship, signing his first entry-level contract, and joining the Colorado Eagles—all within a week. Behrens is aiming to wear an Avalanche sweater this season, not just play for the Eagles. Despite the new challenge, he said, “It’s been a lot of the same preparation as previous summers, thanks to Matt Shaw and DU. I’ve had a strong start because of it, and this summer has just been about facing a new challenge.”

Maturity beyond his years
Behrens’ maturity stands out for a 21-year-old. Unlike many young players eager to jump into the pros, Behrens recognized the value of another year in college to refine his game. “After my sophomore year, I wasn’t satisfied with where I was, so I knew I needed more time. This past year helped me mature, both on and off the ice, and without it, I’d have been a step behind at the next level.”

Conclusion
The return of Logan O’Connor and the arrival of Sean Behrens will bring much-needed energy to the Avalanche. O’Connor’s speed and forechecking ability have been sorely missed, and Behrens’ addition as a puck-moving defenseman will provide valuable options for both the Eagles and the Avalanche. With their hockey sense and skills, fans can’t wait to see them back on the ice.
