Miami has overtaken Florida State in ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) projections for the ACC title. Florida State’s 24-21 loss to Georgia Tech on Saturday dropped the Seminoles in the rankings, allowing Miami to move ahead. Clemson is now the frontrunner with a 23.2% chance to win the ACC, while Miami sits in third place with a 10.6% chance. Louisville holds the second spot with a 14.0% chance, and Florida State has fallen to fourth with a 9.5% chance. Prior to the loss, Miami had a 9.9% chance to win the ACC, and Florida State had been leading with a 26.2% chance back in June. Clemson was second in the June projections with a 19.3% chance, and Louisville was third with 12.0%. Georgia Tech, which had been ranked 12th in chances to win the ACC, has now moved up to eighth.

The loss by Florida State has benefited Clemson, Louisville, and Miami the most in the FPI projections. Several teams saw an increase in their ACC title chances, while others remain longshots. Georgia Tech’s chances to win the ACC rose from 1.0% to 7.9%. Additionally, the loss affected the projected outcome of the Miami vs. Florida State game, with Miami’s chances to win rising from 43.0% to 47.4%, making it a near toss-up. Georgia Tech exposed some weaknesses in Florida State’s game, and their victory has intensified the competition for a spot in the ACC Championship game in Charlotte on December 7. Miami’s upcoming game at Georgia Tech has gained significance, with Georgia Tech now projected to have a 52.0% chance of defeating Miami.
