Shon Abaev, a highly regarded prospect in the 2025 class, is set to make an official visit to Syracuse basketball soon, and he is attracting significant attention from top programs. The 6-foot-8 wing/small forward from Florida has been gaining momentum, with some analysts predicting he could rise to five-star status.
Abaev made a big impression at a New York City showcase earlier this month, where he played alongside other Syracuse recruits, catching the eye of national analysts and scouts. As recruiting services prepare to update their rankings, Abaev is expected to see his national standing improve.
In the coming weeks, Abaev has several official visits scheduled, including trips to Syracuse, Dayton, Southern California, Maryland, Auburn, and Cincinnati. His visit to Syracuse is slated for August 30-31. He has already visited Georgia, Arizona State, Oregon, and Tennessee.
Abaev has developed a strong relationship with Syracuse head coach Adrian Autry, giving the Orange a legitimate chance to secure his commitment. Currently ranked in the top 40 nationally in the 2025 class by several recruiting services, Abaev’s stock has been rising due to his impressive performances on the AAU circuit and other events this spring and summer.
Syracuse offered Abaev a scholarship in late April. He is a standout player at Calvary Christian Academy in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and has been one of the top players in grassroots basketball while playing for the SOH Elite 17U team in the Under Armour Association league.
Earlier this month, Abaev was named MVP at the Under Armour Next Elite 24 showcase in Brooklyn, New York, earning praise from ESPN analyst Fran Fraschilla and other experts. According to Rob Cassidy of Rivals.com, both Duke and Arkansas, under the leadership of new head coach and renowned recruiter John Calipari, have shown interest in Abaev. As the fall recruiting period begins, both
Abaev’s recruitment remains wide open, according to his high school coach, Cilk McSweeney. It will be interesting to see if he receives scholarship offers from Duke, Arkansas, or both. In late May, Syracuse secured a verbal commitment from 2025 five-star forward Sadiq White Jr., and the program is also prioritizing other top recruits, including four-star shooting guard Kiyan Anthony, four-star guard Acaden Lewis, and four-star wing Ryder Frost.
