K-State Receiver Sterling Lockett Poised to Continue Family Legacy with Wildcats

The moment has arrived once more. For the fourth time in recent Kansas State football history, the Wildcats are expecting a receiver with a well-known surname to shine on the field. Enter Sterling Lockett, a redshirt sophomore who is set to make his mark after playing a limited role since joining the team. Following in the footsteps of his older brother Tyler, his father Kevin, and his uncle Aaron, Sterling is ready to step up.

“He’s playing with a lot of speed,” said K-State co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Matt Wells. “He’s improved his understanding of his assignments, alignments, technique, and route running. He’s confident and playing close to his top speed now, which is a significant improvement from the spring. I’m eager to see him in action this fall.”

Sterling Lockett began making an impression early in training camp, showcasing his speed and athleticism with the first-string offense. During a recent scrimmage, he caught every pass thrown his way, demonstrating his growing role on the team. While he’s not yet a projected starter, he is expected to be among the top six receivers and could also contribute as a punt returner.

“Sterling has brought a new level of consistency,” said K-State receivers coach Matthew Middleton. “He’s confident in the team’s scheme and in his own abilities. He’s learned how to use his skills effectively and improve in areas like blocking. Sterling has really developed as a player.”

Sterling Lockett - Every Opportunity | His Huddle

K-State fans are excited about Sterling Lockett’s potential impact, given his family’s storied legacy with the Wildcats. Tyler Lockett, Sterling’s older brother, holds numerous school records with 249 catches, 3,710 yards, and 29 touchdowns, and continues to play for the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks. Kevin Lockett, his father, amassed 3,032 career yards, while his uncle Aaron Lockett recorded 2,400 receiving yards during his time at K-State.

Tyler Lockett, nearing the end of his K-State career, even mentioned that he was adding to his stats to make it a challenge for Sterling to surpass them. Although Sterling Lockett has yet to put up statistics of his own, that is expected to change this season. It won’t be long before his name becomes a familiar one in K-State football.
