Aaron Judge became the quickest player to reach 300 home runs, while Juan Soto added another homer as the New York Yankees defeated the Chicago White Sox 10-2 on Wednesday night.
Judge reached this milestone in his 955th game and 3,431st at-bat, hitting a three-run home run in the eighth inning. The six-time All-Star and 2022 American League MVP launched a 3-0 sinker from Chad Kuhl into the White Sox bullpen in left field, marking his 43rd home run of the season, which leads the majors.
Ralph Kiner previously reached 300 home runs in his 1,087th game, and Babe Ruth did so in his 3,831st at-bat.
“What Aaron is accomplishing is something only a select few in the history of the game have done. He’s a tremendous player and leader, and everyone in there is thrilled he reached this milestone,” said manager Aaron Boone. The White Sox had intentionally walked Juan Soto to get to Judge, who had not homered on a 3-0 pitch since 2021.
Soto had earlier homered in the first inning off Davis Martin, recording his fourth home run in two games and 34th of the season.
Austin Wells followed Judge’s home run with one of his own, marking the eighth time this season the Yankees hit back-to-back homers. Wells also drove in two runs with a single in the seventh inning, giving the Yankees a 4-2 lead.
Gavin Sheets hit his first major league home run to the opposite field in the second inning off rookie Will Warren and added a single in the fourth, putting the White Sox ahead 2-1. However, the White Sox have now lost 26 of their last 28 games, dropped their 12th consecutive series, and sit at 29-93. They are on pace to finish with a record of 39-123, which would be the worst since the 1899 Cleveland Spiders, who went 20-134.
