Good News: New York Rangers Has Announced The Commitment Of A Super Star

The New York Rangers have re-signed defenseman Ryan Lindgren to a one-year contract worth $4.5 million for the 2024-25 season. Lindgren, a veteran blueliner, had initially filed for arbitration. The new deal will allow the 26-year-old to become an unrestricted free agent after the upcoming season.

Hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Lindgren recently completed a three-year contract with a cap hit of $3 million. The $4.5 million value aligns with projections for his next contract. In his fifth season with the Rangers, he scored three goals and 14 assists, bringing his total points to 17, just one short of his career-high from the 2022-23 season. Lindgren has consistently scored at least 15 points in each of the past four seasons.

How Ryan Lindgren became an 'unsung hero' for the NY Rangers

Originally drafted by the Boston Bruins in the second round, 19th overall, of the 2016 NHL Draft, Lindgren was traded to the Rangers in a deal that sent Rick Nash to the Bruins before the 2017-18 trade deadline. Over six seasons with the Rangers, Lindgren has played in 333 games, scoring 10 goals and 70 assists, and adding 11 points in 43 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

During his amateur career, Lindgren was a highly-touted prospect. At the University of Minnesota, he earned two Big Ten All-Star Team Honorable Mentions and represented the United States in several international tournaments. He won silver at the 2014 World Under-17 Challenge, bronze at the 2016 IIHF Men’s Under-18 World Championship, and gold at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship.
