BREAKING NEWS: Top Wide Receiver Commits To Florida Gators Over FSU Football

Top Wide Receiver Target Chooses Florida Gators Over FSU Football

Despite strong efforts from the Seminoles, the blue-chip prospect with deep ties to Gainesville has committed to the Florida Gators. Florida State will need to continue its search to complete the wide receiver class for the 2025 recruiting cycle.

On Sunday, four-star wide receiver Vernell Brown III announced his commitment to the Florida Gators, choosing them over FSU, Ohio State, and Miami. Brown was a top target for the Seminoles, but his connection to Gainesville made the recruitment challenging.

FSU gave it their best shot, hosting Brown for an official visit at the end of June. They also had the advantage of Brown’s friendship with four-star quarterback Tramell Jones Jr., which developed during the 7-on-7 circuit.

Ultimately, Brown chose Florida, influenced by his upbringing around the program. His father played for the Gators from 2001-05 and was on staff from 2018-23, currently managing former UF quarterback Anthony Richardson.

During his junior season at Jones High School, the Florida native caught 70 passes for 1,363 yards and 10 touchdowns, also returning three punts and one kickoff for scores. He is also a track and field athlete, a two-time state qualifier in the triple jump with a personal best of 43-7.25.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound receiver is ranked as the No. 25 overall prospect, No. 6 wide receiver, and No. 5 recruit in Florida for the 2025 class according to 247Sports.

Florida State’s 2025 class, ranked No. 18 nationally, includes 12 verbal commitments, featuring highly regarded receivers Daylan McCutcheon and CJ Wiley.
