BREAKING: Yankees tab biggest rival to replace Aaron Boone

The New York Yankees had a strong start to the season, becoming the first team to reach 50 wins. However, since mid-June, they’ve struggled significantly, failing to win any of their past eight series as of Friday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles.

Manager Aaron Boone has faced criticism from the media and fans due to issues such as a faltering starting rotation, weak batting lineup, and fielding and baserunning errors. Despite Boone’s defense of his players, lackluster performances from key players like D.J. LeMahieu and Trent Grisham have made his defenses seem increasingly implausible.

If the Yankees’ struggles continue and they face another early playoff exit, they might consider moving on from Boone, especially since they have a club option for next season. A notable potential replacement is Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora, whose contract expires after the 2024 season. Jon Heyman of the New York Post mentioned that Cora is likely to be a “coveted free agent.”

Red Sox reporters believe the Yankees might pursue Cora if Boone’s tenure ends. NBC Sports’ John Tomase described it as a “nightmare scenario” for the Red Sox, highlighting Cora’s success and the Yankees’ recent poor performance. Dan Shaughnessy of the Boston Globe agreed, suggesting it could “absolutely” happen.

Despite the Red Sox’s modest roster, Cora has led them to exceed expectations, currently sitting at 51-42 and in contention in the AL East. If the Yankees continue to falter under Boone, they might be tempted to hire a successful manager like Cora, especially with the team still positioned to make roster additions at the trade deadline.

Boone, favored by GM Brian Cashman, owner Hal Steinbrenner, and the players, has yet to secure a World Series title in his seven seasons. Given another summer slump, the Yankees might look to Cora as a replacement to achieve their championship aspirations.
