Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry has made significant strides in the transfer portal, securing multiple commitments over the past 11 days to address key team needs. On Sunday, the Hokies landed a major addition by bringing home a top in-state talent.
As reported by Pete Nakos of On3, Tennessee running back Cameron Seldon, the highest-rated recruit from Virginia’s Class of 2023 according to 247Sports, has committed to Virginia Tech. Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 222 pounds, the Browns Store native has two years of eligibility remaining and fills a critical gap for the Hokies.
Running back was a priority for Virginia Tech after Bhayshul Tuten declared for the NFL Draft and Malachi Thomas entered the transfer portal. The team still has young talents like Jeremiah Coney, who is set to feature prominently in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl against Minnesota, and P.J. Prioleau, sidelined by an October injury. However, Seldon’s addition provides immediate impact and depth.
Ranked as the No. 4 athlete in Virginia and 141st overall in the Class of 2023 by On3 Industry Rankings, Seldon brings versatility. During his time at Tennessee, he recorded 224 rushing yards on 48 carries over two seasons, including 23 carries for 118 yards and a touchdown this year. While he is expected to contribute as a running back, Seldon could also transition to wide receiver—a position he excelled in during high school—or contribute as a kick returner.
This commitment comes shortly after Virginia Tech secured Bowling Green running back Terion Stewart, further strengthening the position group. Pry’s ability to attract top Virginia talent continues to shine, and Seldon’s addition could play a pivotal role in shaping the Hokies’ offense under quarterbacks Kyron Drones and Pop Watson in 2025 and beyond.
