Former Oregon Football Star and Minnesota Vikings Rookie Khyree Jackson Dies in Tragic Car Accident

The Oregon Ducks community mourns the loss of Khyree Jackson, a former standout cornerback for the Ducks and rookie with the Minnesota Vikings, who tragically passed away in a car accident on Friday night in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

Jackson, aged 24, was involved in a fatal collision along with two former high school teammates, Isaiah Hazel and Anthony Lytton Jr., according to reports from the Oregonian. Maryland State Police indicated that Jackson was a passenger in a vehicle struck by another vehicle traveling at high speed. All three occupants of Jackson’s vehicle lost their lives, while no injuries were reported from the other vehicles involved. Investigators suspect alcohol may have played a role in the accident.

Reacting to the devastating news, Vikings General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah expressed profound sadness over Jackson’s untimely passing, highlighting Jackson’s determination and impact both on and off the field. Adofo-Mensah described Jackson as a person who left a lasting impression in every room he entered, and lamented the potential and bright future cut short by this tragedy.

Oregon football coach Dan Lanning also shared his grief on social media, remembering Jackson as not only a talented player but also a beloved individual with a contagious smile.

Jackson’s football journey included stops at Fort Scott Community College and East Mississippi Community College before transferring to the University of Oregon for the 2023 season. During his time with the Ducks, Jackson showcased his skills in 12 games, recording 34 tackles, including five for loss, two sacks, two interceptions, and seven pass deflections. His standout performance earned him recognition as First-Team All-Pac-12 by both the coaches and the Associated Press.

Jackson’s promising career, marked by resilience and determination, tragically came to an end, leaving behind a legacy that touched many lives in the football community and beyond.
