Despite a hand injury, Darren Harris has been able to participate in recent workouts with his Duke basketball teammates. Two weeks ago, the Duke basketball program announced on social media that freshman Darren Harris underwent surgery at Duke Medical Center in mid-June for a fracture in his non-shooting left hand and was expected to make a full recovery.
Now, there is evidence that Harris, a 6-foot-6, 203-pound four-star wing and acclaimed sharpshooter from Paul VI Catholic (Va.), is well on his way to being fully recovered.
On Tuesday night, the Blue Devils shared about two dozen photos from a recent team workout on Instagram and Facebook. Several photos show Harris participating in on-court drills, including dribbling with his right hand. One photo on Facebook reveals that he is now wearing only a standard brace from his wrist to his thumb, with no bulky cast and seemingly few restrictions.
Given his condition in early July, Harris is expected to be in top shape and at full 3-point shooting capacity well before preseason practices and October’s Countdown to Craziness.
Harris will join the other members of the nation’s top-ranked freshman class, along with returning guards Caleb Foster and Tyrese Proctor, and a strong group of four transfer newcomers.
The 2024-25 Duke basketball season, Jon Scheyer’s third as head coach, begins at home against Maine on Nov. 4.
