Travis Perry Living His Dream of Playing for Kentucky
When Travis Perry committed to the Kentucky Wildcats last year, it surprised many fans. Some believed he wasn’t a priority for the previous staff or didn’t fit their style. Despite a complete staff overhaul during the off-season, which saw John Calipari leave, Perry remained committed to Kentucky — the only recruit to do so.
Perry, the all-time leading scorer in KHSAA history, also won a state title this past season, defeating fellow Wildcat teammate Trent Noah in the finals. He then moved to Lexington, where he and the rest of the team settled in a few weeks ago and began summer practices last week.
At the new Club Blue New Era event, a meet-and-greet for Big Blue Nation to meet the new Kentucky basketball team, Perry shared his excitement with the media.
“It means a lot; it’s a huge honor. It’s great to meet and interact with all of these people. I think pretty much every person has said thank you for being here,” Perry told KSR at the event. “That’s something you don’t get a lot of places. It means a lot to me, and I know it means a lot to the other guys too.”
As a freshman, Perry has been preparing his teammates for what BBN and the state of Kentucky are like. Having once been a young fan attending games at Rupp Arena, he now finds himself in a different role.
Currently participating in summer workouts and taking summer classes at the University of Kentucky, Perry is gearing up for his freshman season. Reflecting on his journey, he said:
“It’s a dream come true. You always expect it a little bit, but until you get on the road and get up there, it’s a different feeling. I remember coming to camps, waiting outside the Lodge trying to get autographs. Now I’m the one walking into the Lodge to go to my room. It’s things like that that put it in perspective, how blessed I am to be able to live out a dream. It’s really exciting.”
