Nick Ammirati Joins Georgia Bulldog Coaching Staff
Nick Ammirati has joined the University of Georgia’s baseball coaching staff, announced Ike Cousins head baseball coach Wes Johnson on Tuesday. Ammirati comes to Georgia after three seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Kentucky under Nick Mingione. During his tenure, the Wildcats reached their first College World Series in 2024, finishing with a school record of 46-15 and claiming their second-ever SEC title with a 22-8 league record.
“We’re excited to add Nick to our staff as he’s a dynamic recruiter and instructor, plus he’s experienced success at every level of his baseball playing and coaching career,” said Johnson.
Under Ammirati’s guidance, the 2024 Kentucky offense led the SEC with 120 stolen bases and topped the league in batting average, on-base percentage, runs scored, hits, doubles, RBI, and stolen bases in SEC play. Notable players included Nick Lopez (2nd Team All-America, 1st Team All-SEC) and Ryan Waldschmidt (3rd Team All-America, 2nd Team All-SEC). Mitchell Daly and Emilien Pitre (3rd Team All-America) were named to the All-SEC Defensive Team.
In 2023, Kentucky ranked first in SEC play in batting average, doubles, triples, stolen bases, sacrifices, and second in on-base percentage. They also set school records for fielding percentage for the second consecutive season. The Wildcats achieved a 40-21 mark and reached the Super Regional, eventually falling to LSU. In 2022, they finished with a 33-26 record.
Ammirati previously worked with current Bulldog assistant head coach Will Coggin at both Kentucky and Mississippi State. Over five seasons as a Division-I assistant coach, Ammirati has had 22 players drafted, with three reaching the Major Leagues by 2022.
Before Kentucky, Ammirati was an assistant coach at Southern Miss in 2021, helping the team to an NCAA Tournament appearance and a 40-21 record. He also served four seasons at Hinds Community College as an assistant coach, recruiting coordinator, and sports information director. At Hinds, Ammirati’s pitching staffs ranked highly nationally, and he led the team to regional championships and an NJCAA Division II World Series appearance.
Ammirati also spent two years at Northwestern State, contributing to two 30-win seasons and six MLB Draft selections. His baseball career began at Seton Hall Prep in New Jersey, where he was a high school state and national champion. He played college baseball at Seton Hall University, Panola College, and Mississippi State, where he was part of the 2013 College World Series runner-up team.
Ammirati holds a bachelor’s degree in public relations from Mississippi State and a master’s in health and human performance from Northwestern State. He is married to Caroline Pound.
