Kentucky Secures Commitment from Louisiana Tech Transfer WR Tru Edwards
After a disappointing 2024 season that saw the Kentucky Wildcats finish with a 4-8 record, the program is actively rebuilding through the transfer portal in hopes of a stronger showing in 2025. On Monday, former Louisiana Tech wide receiver Tru Edwards announced his commitment to the Wildcats, bringing experience and production to the team. Edwards has one season of eligibility remaining.
Edwards had a breakout year in 2024 with the Bulldogs, catching 84 passes for 986 yards and eight touchdowns. His stellar performance earned him First-Team Conference USA honors, as he led Louisiana Tech in every major receiving category.
Over his three seasons with Louisiana Tech, Edwards appeared in 27 games, recording 107 receptions for 1,270 yards and eight touchdowns. Before joining the Bulldogs, he began his collegiate career at Hawaii, where he played in 10 games as a freshman and caught five passes for 37 yards.
With Edwards’ addition, Kentucky has now brought in 18 players via the transfer portal. Among the notable transfers joining him are wide receiver Kendrick Law from Alabama and defensive lineman David Gusta from Washington State.
Wide receiver was a pressing need for the Wildcats after losing Hardley Gilmore IV, Barion Brown, Dane Key, Anthony Brown-Stephens, and Brandon White this offseason. Kentucky’s passing offense struggled significantly in 2024, ranking 112th in the nation, and the departures left the receiver room thin.
Edwards’ speed and playmaking ability could provide an immediate boost to the Wildcats’ offense as they aim to revitalize their passing attack under head coach Mark Stoops. Fans will be eager to see how the new additions shape Kentucky’s performance in the upcoming season.
