Rivals Awards Miami Football Top ACC Spring Transfer Grade
Rivals.com has awarded the Miami football transfer class an A-, the highest grade in the ACC for the 2024 spring transfer window. The only other ACC team to come close was SMU, coached by former Miami offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee, which received a B+. Miami ranks third in the ACC for the 2024 Rivals transfer class rankings.
Nationally, Florida State stands at 16th in the 2024 Rivals transfer class rankings, Syracuse at 17th, and Miami at 19th. Rivals evaluated each ACC transfer class based on their performance in the spring portal window, during which Miami secured six transfers.
The new additions to Miami’s roster include Jaylin Alderman (LB, Louisville), Simeon Barrow Jr. (DT, Michigan State), Samuel Brown (WR, Houston), Damien Martinez (RB, Oregon State), Dyoni Hill (CB, Marshall), and Tyler Baron (DL, Tennessee). Notably, On3 reporters Gaby Urrutia and Matt Zenitz mentioned that Barrow might leave Miami after just four weeks.
Jacey Zembal of Rivals emphasized the statistics of Martinez, Barrow, Brown, and Hill. Brown and Martinez are anticipated to start for Miami in 2024, while Hill is expected to compete for the third cornerback spot. If Barrow stays, he is projected to start, but if he leaves, C.J. Clark and Marley Cook, both winter transfers, are likely to take the starting defensive tackle positions.
Alderman and Baron are expected to be key players in Miami’s defensive rotation in 2024. The Hurricanes have significantly bolstered their depth, experience, and talent through the transfer portal. They have added crucial support for quarterback Cam Ward and enhanced their defensive lineup with proven performers. Miami’s 14-player transfer class is tied with Alabama for the second-lowest number in the top 25. Only Oregon, with the ninth-ranked class and nine transfers, has a higher ranking with fewer additions. Most of Miami’s transfers are anticipated to make a significant impact in the 2024 season.
