Ryan Murphy Steps Down as Head Coach for Texas Women’s Golf
In a surprising turn of events, Ryan Murphy resigned as the head coach for Texas women’s golf on Friday afternoon after a decade with the team.
Murphy led the team through a remarkable period, securing five conference titles since 2017. His resignation comes shortly after being named the Big 12 Coach of the Year.
“The University of Texas has been great to me and my family, and I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to be a coach here,” Murphy said to Texas Athletics. “I’ve enjoyed my 16 years around many terrific young people on my teams as well as many great people that work in Texas Athletics. I am happy with what we achieved in my 10 years as the Head Women’s Golf Coach, and I believe the program is in a great place. I look forward to rooting on the players I’ve had the pleasure to coach into the future.”
Current associate head coach Kate Golden is the likely candidate to replace Murphy. However, his unexpected departure raises many questions and creates uncertainty about the program’s future
