Breaking: 4-star super player commit to Texas football

4-Star RB Takes Aim at Oklahoma Following Commitment to Texas Football

The Texas football program secured a significant commitment from four-star running back James Simon on Wednesday. Simon, the second running back in the 2025 class to commit to the Longhorns, marks the 10th recruit Texas has landed. To date, the 2025 recruiting class includes seven four-star and three three-star recruits, but no five-star players. The class is currently ranked 13th nationally, with plenty of time for rankings to shift as the cycle progresses.

“BREAKING: Four-Star RB James Simon has Committed to Texas, he tells me for @on3recruits,” tweeted Hayes Fawcett. “The 6’0”, 197-pound RB from Shreveport, LA chose the Longhorns over LSU and Notre Dame.”

This commitment is a notable win for Texas, and Simon is already gearing up for the Red River Rivalry. Taking a jab at Oklahoma, he declared, “SEC takeover sucks to be a Sooner HOOK EM.”

Both Texas and Oklahoma are transitioning to the SEC this upcoming season, which explains Simon’s SEC-related comment. This move is part of a broader trend in college football, with significant conference realignment set to reshape the landscape. The Pac-12 is dissolving, and the Big Ten, ACC, Big 12, and SEC will all look markedly different next season. Texas and Oklahoma’s shift to the SEC is a major component of these changes.

According to 247 Sports, Simon is a four-star recruit, ranked as the #200 player in the 2025 class, the #13 running back, and the #4 player in Louisiana. He attends Calvary Baptist Academy in Shreveport, Louisiana, and had offers from several prestigious programs before choosing Texas. The upcoming SEC debut season is pivotal for Texas.

The Longhorns, fresh off a Big 12 championship, are anticipated to be one of the top teams in college football next season, retaining much of their talent from last year’s College Football Playoff team. However, proving their mettle in the SEC will be crucial. The heightened competition and a tougher schedule, including an early-season matchup against defending national champions Michigan, will be a true test.

Winning games will be more challenging for Texas in 2024 compared to 2023. Despite the formidable schedule, the Longhorns possess the talent to compete at the highest level.
