Former Texas Standout QB Mike Cotten Dies at 84
Former Texas standout Mike Cotten passed away on Saturday after a brief illness, the university announced on Sunday. He was 84. Cotten had a record of 17-4-1 as the starting quarterback from 1959 to 1961 and also played defensive back during his career with the Longhorns.

In 1961, he led Texas to a 10-1 record and a No. 3 final ranking. The Longhorns qualified for the Cotton Bowl that year and defeated Ole Miss 12-7, with Cotten being named the game’s most outstanding player. He was inducted into the Texas Athletics Hall of Honor in 1981.
