Virginia secures commitment from Kansas State transfer guard Dai Dai Ames, completing their roster with this final addition. ESPN’s Jeff Borzello first reported, and Wahoos247 confirmed, that Ames has committed to the Virginia Cavaliers. Ames visited Virginia last week on an official visit.
The 6-foot-1 guard played 31 games as a true freshman for Kansas State last season, starting in 16. He averaged 5.2 points, 2.0 assists, and shot 32.9% from three on 2.3 attempts per game, playing about 20 minutes each game. Ames started the final 13 games of the season, scoring in double figures in three of the last five games.
In his last game for Kansas State, Ames scored a season-high 16 points and provided five assists against Iowa in the NIT. He made six of eight field goal attempts and hit four of five three-pointers. Ames, entering the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining, is now taking the final available scholarship for Tony Bennett and his staff.
The Cavaliers have had a productive few weeks, adding three former Top-100 players to their roster: Ames, TJ Power, and Jalen Warley. With these additions, the 2024-25 UVA men’s basketball roster is now complete. The guard lineup includes Jalen Warley, Christian Bliss, and Ames. The wings feature Isaac McKneely, Andrew Rohde, Taine Murray, Ishan Sharma, and Elijah Gertrude. The forwards include TJ Power, Elijah Saunders, Jacob Cofie, Anthony Robinson, Buchanan, and preferred walk-on Carter Lang.
