Indiana Football has bolstered its defensive backfield with the addition of transfer D’Angelo Ponds from James Madison University. With the departure of cornerback Kobee Minor, Hoosiers head coach Curt Cignetti and his staff recognized the urgent need for depth in the secondary, especially ahead of spring practice.
Ponds, a rising sophomore from Chaminade-Madonna Prep in Hollywood, Florida, brings valuable experience from his time at James Madison. In his freshman year, he made significant contributions, appearing in all 13 games and starting in ten. His impressive stats included 51 tackles, 13 pass breakups, two interceptions, two tackles for loss, and two fumble recoveries, earning him recognition as a Freshman All-American Second Team member and accolades from various sports organizations.
Following Ponds’ entry into the transfer portal, multiple schools, including Illinois, Boston College, USC, Auburn, Cincinnati, Duke, Miami, Wake Forest, and Tulane, expressed interest in recruiting him. Ultimately, he chose Indiana, providing the Hoosiers with much-needed reinforcement in their defensive backfield.
With three years of eligibility remaining, Ponds is poised to make a significant impact on the Indiana Football program.
