Good News: Sunderland join race to sign England Under-21 international after surprise link to PNE

Sunderland has entered the competition to sign an England Under-21 international, following a surprising connection to Preston North End (PNE). The player in question is winger Liam Millar, who is set to return to his parent club Basel at the end of the season after impressing during his loan spell at PNE.

During his time at North End, Millar has showcased his talent with five goals and five assists, particularly standing out with his skills on the left wing. While Preston will likely explore a permanent deal for the Canadian, his performances haven’t gone unnoticed.

Reports from January indicated that Sunderland is eyeing Millar as a potential replacement for their star winger Jack Clarke, who is attracting Premier League attention. Millar’s comfort in the North West could play in Preston’s favor, but Sunderland has now emerged as another contender for the PNE-linked talent.

Furthermore, Sunderland is also reportedly interested in Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Sam Tickle, who recently made his England Under-21 debut. Tickle is being considered as a replacement for Anthony Patterson, Sunderland’s current goalkeeper who is also drawing Premier League interest.

Previously, Preston had shown interest in signing Tickle, but a move didn’t materialize. However, Sunderland’s interest could provide competition if Preston decides to pursue him this summer, similar to the situation with Millar.

Regarding the potential pursuit of Tickle, it’s unlikely that Preston will prioritize it unless Freddie Woodman, their current goalkeeper, departs. Given that Woodman is entering the final year of his contract, Preston might have Tickle on their radar as a potential replacement if needed. While Tickle has impressed at Wigan, he may not be a top priority for Preston this summer, especially compared to the pursuit of Millar.
