According to reports, former Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White is set to join the Los Angeles Rams on a one-year contract worth $8.5 million. Adam Schefter, citing sources, noted that the deal could potentially reach a maximum value of $10 million. White, who was selected by the Bills in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft and has played his entire seven-season career in Western New York, was released by the Bills on March 13 as a post-June 1 cut, resulting in a significant salary cap saving of $10.2 million for the team.
Throughout his seven seasons, White has appeared in 82 games, starting all of them, and has accumulated 311 combined tackles with three sacks. He has also forced five fumbles and recovered four during his career. However, it’s his impressive tally of passes defensed (68) and 18 interceptions that have solidified his reputation as one of the league’s top cornerbacks.
White faced challenges in the past two seasons due to injuries, spending much of his time on Injured Reserve. He suffered a torn ACL during a Thanksgiving Day win over the New Orleans Saints in 2021, sidelining him for a year before his return to the field. After making a comeback and playing the final six games of the 2022 season, White’s hopes of returning to his All-Pro level were dashed when he tore his Achilles tendon in Week 4 of the 2023 season against the Miami Dolphins, prematurely ending his season once again.
During his rehabilitation, White reportedly spent time in Los Angeles, where Rams team doctor Neal Attrache performed his ACL repair surgery. Despite Bills general manager Brandon Beane’s recent statement indicating a potential return for White to Buffalo and head coach Sean McDermott’s emotional response regarding his relationship with the cornerback, it appears that White will be taking his talents to the west coast for the 2024 season.
