NEWS NOW : MLB Insider Dashes Phillies’ Hopes of Landing $200 Million Star

The Philadelphia Phillies enjoyed a strong 2024 regular season but faltered in the postseason, rendering their success bittersweet. Entering the offseason, the team was rumored to be exploring bold moves, including potentially trading All-Star infielder Alec Bohm. However, their only notable acquisition so far has been pitcher Jesús Luzardo.

The Phillies were linked to free agent Alex Bregman, but MLB insider Robert Murray of FanSided sees it as an unlikely scenario unless the team makes significant financial adjustments. “There has also been speculation connecting Bregman and the Phillies, but it’s highly unlikely that Philadelphia would get involved unless the team successfully trades Nick Castellanos or another big salary,” Murray explained.

With no indication that the Phillies plan to move Bohm or unload substantial contracts like Castellanos’, Bregman’s $200 million price tag seems out of reach for Philadelphia. Instead, teams with greater financial flexibility—such as the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, or Toronto Blue Jays—appear to be more logical destinations for Bregman.

While the door isn’t entirely closed on a potential deal, it seems increasingly unlikely that the Phillies will be the team to secure Bregman this offseason.
