Breaking News: Dennis Allen speaks on Saints’ addition of a star and his recovery timeline

Saints head coach Dennis Allen recently addressed the addition of Chase Young to the New Orleans Saints roster and discussed his expected recovery timeline. Young’s signing stands out as the primary acquisition for the Saints this offseason, as they seek to bolster their pass rush, which was a weak point last season. The team inked the promising defensive end to a one-year contract, with the potential for a longer-term stay in New Orleans if he performs well.

However, the excitement surrounding Young’s arrival was somewhat overshadowed by news of an impending neck procedure related to an injury he sustained during last year’s preseason. Despite playing all 16 games last season, the issue required attention, affecting his availability for the offseason program with the Saints.

Coach Allen addressed Young’s recovery process, expressing confidence in the information they have regarding his neck injury and the timeline for his return to full health. He emphasized that it’s a matter of when, not if, Young will regain his health.

Regarding Young’s signing, Allen admitted that he initially didn’t expect the opportunity to acquire such a talented player. Once it became apparent that Young would be available, the Saints acted swiftly to secure his services. Allen highlighted Young’s skills and ability to consistently win one-on-one matchups, qualities that the Saints sorely lacked in their pass rush last season, where they ranked 28th in the league with only 34 sacks. Despite recording 7.5 sacks himself last season while playing for both the Washington Commanders and the San Francisco 49ers, Young is still young at 25 years old and has immense potential, especially considering his limited playing time due to injuries in previous seasons. Once fully recovered, he could make a significant impact for the Saints.
